Graduation Celebration Information
Students may register to attend the
Econ Celebration from May 1 - 20
The Economics Department Graduation Celebration
honors our graduating students, award recipients and honors our Distinguished
Alumnus. It is a wonderful time for students, faculty members,
families and friends to celebrate the achievements of our undergraduates!
The 2012 Distinguished Alumnus is Dr. Charles Cox, BA '67, Senior Vice President at Compass Lexecon.
Who is eligible
to participate?
Those who have earned
economics degrees from Summer 2011 through Winter 2012, and those who
have formally applied to graduate in Spring and Summer 2012.
Parking:
Parking will be available in the E1 parking lot. The cost is $15 per vehicle. The parking fee must be paid in cash as checks and credit cards will not be accepted. Shuttles at the North End of the lot, nearest the University Village, will take students and guests to the Center for Spiritual Living. Shuttle service will begin at approximately 12:30pm and will end at 2:30pm (keep in mind that this is when the ceremony begins). Be sure to arrive early to the shuttle stop as if you arrive shortly before the ceremony begins, the shuttles may be full and you could be late! Shuttles will usher guests back to the E1 parking lot between 3:45pm-5:15pm.
Important: If you do not have a parking pass, issued by the Econ Department, you will not be permitted to park in the CSL lot and will need to go back to park in the E1 lot. This could result in your late arrival to the ceremony.
Please do *not* park in the surrounding neighborhoods near the CSL. Another option is to take the bus. Bus routes 71, 74, and 75 stop directly in front of the Center.
How to register:
Students can register to attend the Economics
Department Graduation Celebration via catalyst from May 1 - 20.
An email will be sent to students eligible to register on May 1. Students
wishing to participate in the UW Commencement Ceremony on June 9, 2012
in CenturyLink Stadium, must register at http://www.uwgraduation.com.
Location:
In the past, the celebration has been held in the HUB Ballroom on campus, however the HUB is currently being renovated. We've had to find another location within our budget that can accommodate the amount of people who attend. This year's celebration will take place at the Center for Spiritual Living (5801 Sand Point Way, NE, Seattle, WA 98105). See below for directions and a map.
Dress:
Dress is business casual. Students
are not required to wear UW regalia (cap and gown).
Seating:
There will be reserved seating in the
front center section of the Celebration Hall auditorium for graduating students.
You can sit anywhere in this section and do not need to be in alphabetical
order. Please do not leave empty seats between students and sit
as close to the front as possible. Family and friends can sit
in any available seat other than the front center section of the ballroom
or any designated reserved row.
Tickets:
There is a ticket limit per student.
After registering, students can sign up on a waiting list to receive
additional tickets by emailing econadv@u.washington.edu. Tickets
can be picked up in the Economics Advising Office in 305 Savery Hall from
May 22 - 25.

You can sign up for one of these spaces when you register to attend the celebration, if you fit into one of the above categories. Remaining spaces will be available through a lottery system. You can submit your name for the lottery when you register to attend the celebration. What do I do when I arrive for the ceremony/celebration?
Students need to check in at the counter
in north side of the lobby outside of the Celebration Hall auditorium. When
you check in, you will receive a name card. Keep this card with
you! Students and guests proceed into the a Celebration Hall entrance.
Graduating students sit in the front center section.
What happens at the celebration?
The ceremony will begin at 2:30pm.
Please be seated by this time. The Distinguished Alumnus will
address the students and audience. Student honors and awards will
be presented, followed by the Procession of Students, where each student
has his/her name called. During the Processional, volunteers will
escort students to the stage by row. Students, bring your
name card that you received at check-in to the stage with you!
You will hand your card to the person at the microphone who will call
your name as you cross the stage to shake hands with a faculty member
and receive a certificate jacket. Exit on the opposite side of
the stage and return to your seat.
Certificates and gift info:
Participating students will receive a
commemorative certificate and gift after the ceremony.
After the ceremony:
There will be a short reception following the ceremony (at approximately 3:30pm) where students can pick up their certificates and gift, eat light refreshments and mingle. This reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall on the Center for Spiritual Living campus.
