Three Economics students - Veronica Guenther, Sarah Yu, and Alex Bolton - have been selected as members of the inaugural class of the Husky 100. This new award recognizes 100 undergraduate and graduate students from across the three UW campuses who are making the most of their time as members of the UW community—and making a difference inside and outside of the classroom.

Veronica Guenther is a senior pursuing a BA in Community, Environment, & Planning, and a BS in Economics. Veronica is the outreach coordinator at the student-run, student-funded Campus Sustainability Fund, where she works to implement sustainable urban policy through community activism. Veronica is also co-founder and director of outreach for Northwest Women at UW, a student club working to close the gender gap in outdoors activities and bring together women in an active, healthy and inclusive community. She has interned with Walkable Washington and the Coal-Free Washington campaign, and participated in the College of Arts & Sciences' Koru EarthCorps leadership and business boot camp designed to prepare college students and post-grads for the working world.

Sarah Yu is a senior majoring in computer science, economics and international studies. She spent last spring as a Cybersecurity Research Fellow in Microsoft’s Trustworthy Computing Group in partnership with the UW’s Jackson School of International Studies. Previously, Yu worked with the Seattle Red Cross as a Jackson-Munro Public Service Fellow, an award that aims to develop undergraduate students’ potential as leaders while working on a public service project. She has completed internships at Amazon and Lagoon Conservation, and for the past six years she has served in various capacities as a volunteer with the American Red Cross.

Alex Bolton is an alumnus with BA degrees in Economics and Political Science (2003) and a Master of Arts in Public Administration (MPA) from the Evans School (2005). He is graduating from UW Law in this spring. A Spokane native, Alex is President of the UW Graduate and Professional Student Senate (GPSS). As a student at UW, Alex has been involved with a number of activities and committees, including the Board of Regents, the Associated Students of the University of Washington, the advisory committee on intercollegiate athletics,  advisory committee on student financial aid, and several others.
