The UW Department of Economics was honored to host Professor James A. Robinson, 2024 Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences and University Professor at the University of Chicago, as the keynote speaker for the 2025 Milliman Lecture on October 7, 2025. Professor Robinson, renowned for his pioneering research on how political and economic institutions shape long-term prosperity, delivered an engaging and insightful lecture that offered valuable perspectives on his latest work and its global impact. He earned his B.Sc. from the London School of Economics, an M.A. from the University of Warwick, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University. The event drew a full audience eager to learn from one of the field’s most influential scholars.
The department extends its sincere gratitude to Professor Robinson for his visit and to the many faculty, students, alumni, and community members who joined us throughout the day’s events — including a faculty seminar and the evening public lecture and reception. The enthusiasm and thoughtful dialogue made this year’s Milliman Lecture a memorable celebration of scholarship and community.
