The annual Economics Department Graduation Celebration honors our graduating students, award recipients, and our Distinguished Alumnus. It is a wonderful time for students, faculty members, families and friends to celebrate the achievements of our graduates!
Who is eligible to participate?
Those who have graduated with a Major in Economics in Summer 2017. Autumn 2017, Winter 2018, and those who have submitted a Graduation Application for Spring 2018 and/or Summer 2018.
Parking permits must be purchased at the UW Commencement website.
How to register
Students can register to attend the Economics Department Graduation Celebration via catalyst from May 2 – 20. An email will be sent to students eligible to register on May 2. Students wishing to participate in the UW Commencement Ceremony at Husky Stadium, must register at http://www.washington.edu/graduation.
The celebration will be held in the HUB Ballroom.
Dress & Attire
Cap and Gown student academic attire are required.
We have a very limited number of graduation regalia (cap/gown/tassel) sets to loan to students in-need. Our goal is to have everyone wearing graduation regalia at the ECON Graduation Celebration. If you are in a situation where you need to borrow one of these regalia sets, please email Economics Advising at email@example.com.
There will be reserved seating in the front center section of the ballroom for graduating students. You can sit anywhere in this section and do not need to be in alphabetical order. Please do not leave empty seats between students and sit as close to the front as possible. Family and friends can sit in any available seat other than the front center section of the ballroom or any designated reserved row.
Guests & Tickets
There is a 6-ticket limit per student for your guests planning to attend. After registering, students can sign up on a waiting list to receive additional tickets by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Tickets can be picked up in the Economics Advising Office in 305 Savery Hall between May 23-May 30.You must pick up your tickets between these dates or you may not receive the commemorative certificate and departmental gift.
Graduating students, you do not need a ticket for yourself.

What do I do when I arrive for the ceremony/celebration?
Students need to check in at the counter in north side of the lobby outside of the ballroom. When you check in, you will receive a name card. Keep this card with you! Students and guests proceed into the ballroom and graduating students sit in the front center section.
What happens at the celebration?
The ceremony will begin at 3:00 p.m. Please be seated by this time. The Distinguished Alumnus will address the students and audience. Student honors and awards will be presented, followed by the Procession of Students, where each student has his/her name called. During the Processional, volunteers will escort students to the stage by row.
Students, bring your name card that you received at check-in to the stage with you! You will hand your card to the person at the microphone who will call your name as you cross the stage to shake hands with a faculty member and receive a certificate jacket. Exit on the opposite side of the stage and return to your seat.
Certificates and gift info
Participating students will receive a commemorative certificate and gift after the ceremony. Those items can be picked up in the reception room.
After the ceremony
There will be a short reception following the ceremony (at approximately 4:30 pm) where students can pick up their certificates and gift, eat light refreshments and mingle.
