Volunteer Mentors Hit the Ground Running with 2013 Cohort

Submitted by Nicole Johns on

The Economics Undergraduate Mentorship Program, now entering its third year, received more than 80 student applications for the 2013-2014 academic year. With a fabulous group of dedicated volunteer mentors, many of whom are department alumni, the program was able to accommodate 50 undergraduates this year.

Interested in who our current mentors are?

The mission of the program is to enrich and support the professional, academic, and personal experiences of undergraduate students in the Department of Economics in order to assist them in the transition from academic to professional life.

Mentoring an Economics undergraduate is a rewarding experience for a number of reasons. Interacting with students often prompts professionals who have been away from the classroom for many years to reflect on their own careers and take stock of their accomplishments. Through the mentoring process, mentors come to realize how much they’ve learned and how much they have to offer college students. Most mentors also find the experience reinvigorates their interest both in their own work and in that of current Economics students.
