January 19, 2023: Washington Council for Economic and Financial Education Panel

The Washington Council for Economic and Financial Education is hosting a panel discussion on the "Rising role of economists on policies in the public and private sectors" on Thursday, January 19, 2023. 

This free in-person event starts at 7:00 PM PST and will have a 1 hour panel discussion followed by 1 hour of Q&A. It will take place at the University of Washington in the Walker-Ames Auditorium. It will be moderated by Darlene Wilczynski, Vice President and regional executive of the Seattle branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, and features 3 thought leaders from Fortune 500 companies as guest speakers:

  1. Dr. Skylar Olsen: Chief economist at Zillow and a Ph.D. housing economist with more than ten years of experience figuring out how, why, and what’s next, Skylar is passionate about ensuring policymakers, journalists, housing professionals, and her colleagues have the data and understanding they need to make better decisions. Skylar has testified before Congress about fair housing issues and regularly shares her housing-market expertise on stage, in print, and on local and national television and radio stations.
  2. Ida Johnsson, PhD: an Associate Director on Chewy’s Applied Economics Research Team, she works on macroeconomic scenario modeling, long-range forecasting, and causal inference questions. Before this role, Ida worked as a forecasting manager at Zillow. In addition, she has led data science and forecasting teams at Universal Standard Housing, Clutter, and psyML.
  3. Charlie Manzanares: a Senior Manager, Economist at Amazon Prime, he leads a team of economists, applied scientists, and engineers, who create science that helps Amazon Prime design and manage the Prime membership world-wide. He worked as a teaching assistant for the American Economic Association Summer Training Program. This program trains aspiring graduate students in economics, primarily from historically under-represented backgrounds. He also served as a Fulbright Fellow at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona Spain, where he studied the law and economics of property registries as a vehicle for entrepreneurial growth, especially in developing countries.
